A super quick snack. Boil sweet corn. Once done, take it in a bowl, add little salt, chili powder to taste and squeeze lime in it, generously. And it's done!

Banana Pan Cakes Goan style.

Every morning for our breakfast, we would wake earlier than usual for these exquisite banana pan cakes that were served to us by the bungalow owners during our Goa trips. We would love it so much, that we hated our breakfast at home for a weeks after coming back from the trip. I am sharing the recipe here with everyone. Though the cook didn't share it with me the original recipe not that I asked for but I regretted not asking for it. So, as usual I figured it out as per the flavors and the taste on my own.

For the batter you need,
2 cups - white flour,
4 tbsp - powdered sugar,
1/2 tsp - baking soda,
2-3 eggs,
Milk as per the consistency,

On the side,
Honey
And the star of the dish, the bananas 3-4

Mix all the wet ingredients in a deep bowl then add the white flour, sugar and the baking soda (and a pinch of salt). Whisk it well. The consistency of the batter must runny not too thick for this one. Just like dosa. Once the batter is ready, pour it on a non-stick pan and spread it like dosa but a little thicker than the dosa so that it's soft and not crunchy. Cook it both the sides, it takes only a few minutes. Then take them in a plate, in the center of the pan cake slice bananas and roll it. Pour honey on top and enjoy. Children love it and you will feel like a child while you dig in.

After 70 deaths everyone started noticing, evaluating, analyzing the flaws of the medical system. The mismanagement in the healthcare system, the responsiveness to such incidences. But, are we not aware of these things happening every single day? Don't we prepare for such days to come?

Today all of a sudden, just because a news channel is exposing, we come to know that we have scarcity of doctors in our country. Is it? Didn't we know that already? We are a country of billion plus people but we have only a few lac doctors to treat patients. And among those few lac of doctors how many are really qualified enough that is also a question mark. Then why do we get shocked by these number of deaths? When we know the state of our healthcare system.

Does the problem only start in the hospital where the treatment is given inefficiently? No. In our country, to become an MBBS doctor a student has to pay hundreds of thousand rupees to just educate himself to be a doctor. There are no seats in the medical colleges ever that can be vacant, if you look for one. And, after this kind of education system we expect good healthcare? When we do not allow the aspirants to become a doctor, how do we expect good doctors in this country? When are the news channels, the government and the public of this country are going to start thinking at the root cause of problems and then try solving them.

Secondly, every single year people die of diseases that could have been prevented by simple hygiene. We do have our current PM who has been stressing a lot on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene but how much has changed? How much is achieved so far? Not enough. We talk about a 'Swacha Bharat' but, people don't respect the cleaners. The street sweepers, the garbage collectors, the sanitation workers are not given any boost to do their jobs. When we know the major cause of so many deaths is filth, why don't we give more importance to the people who keep it clean for us. The Jhaduwalas are also the soldiers of our country, they fight for us. They fight against the contamination, filth, garbage and ultimately the diseases. So, why don't we respect them like soldiers that fight at the borders. They keep us safe too. Why don't they get paid better for the jobs they do. A janitor is paid the least in this country. There is a misconception among us that it is the worst job. But, it is one of the most important jobs too for us to live free of diseases. So, why not acknowledge the role of it. Why not encourage more and more people to go in the field of cleaning. Why not pay them more, as they risk their lives for us by cleaning things that we can't.

I know, I am just talking, talking and talking. But, what I believe is, just by writing these things and being read by some people at least, my message goes out there. There might be some people who will be interested in my beliefs and may see things differently.

Last few days television news channels are flooded the same news almost all day and night, 70 plus deaths of children due to Encephalitis in Gorakhpur. People from the other parts of the country did not know the place called Gorakhpur before this tragic, horrific incident. But, the fact is that every single year more 200 children on an average die in the Gorakhpur during the month of August due to encephalitis.

Encephalitis is a vector borne, air borne disease. It is fatal if it is not treated immediately and effectively.

Have been listening to the same old, rigid discussion cum debates conducted by the elite news channel everyday, claiming to expose the state of affairs on the ground. I wonder why does it take 70 deaths to wake up to reality for everyone?

Before coming down to the main issue, I would like to mention something about the state of media in this country. There are 4 to 5 major networks or the media houses carrying out news channels in several languages. I happen to watch the best of them being the main English news channels. But, every time there is a debate, discussion conducted on these channels on different topics, one thing remains the same and that it the panelists. No matter which topic is discussed the same 15-20 panelist are there to choose from for these channels. When I watch these channels, I forget that we are a country of 1.25 billion people. As, I see the same faces each and every day, discussing range of topics whether, politics, finance, health, education, religion, weather or even rocket science. And these are the people who are claiming to expose the reality! They must change their ways of covering and showcasing news in the first place. To see the change.

hmtday Days Today
Today we are celebrating the 70th Independence Day!
We got our independence from the East India Company and the British Rule on this day 70 years ago. We love to celebrate it as the symbol of freedom. But, are we truly free of all the other evils even today?

Are we free from the evils of discrimination? Are we free of the greed and the corruption? Are the women and children free to roam around on the streets without fear? Are we free of the diseases spreading every second due to filth, contamination, poor sanitation, pollution and littered streets? Are we free from our social biases and the religious prejudices? Are we free to educate our children, as per their talents and choices? Are we free from the regressive, negative mentality? Is our heart, mind and soul feeling the freedom or we only symbolize it by celebrating a day in August?

I know, it is a special day today. It is a day to be celebrated. But, we should not just celebrate one victory over the evil that we did decades ago. We should have a NEW reason to celebrate each year that we conquer.

I have been watching a new show these days titled 'Trust Me I Am A Doctor'. It is a very informative show. That covers common medical myths and brings out the facts behind those myths. It is good to watch it, as there are too many health misconceptions that prevail. I like this show, it comes on BBC Earth.

Whenever we eat foods, that are from the refrigerator, we must keep it out for some time, for it to come down to the room temperature and then make it hot or boil it. By doing this, it makes sure that the food is not gone bad already. Many times, foods go bad even after constantly being in the fridge, due to bacteria built up in it.

hmtday Hygiene Tips
Keeping the fridge clean at all times is a must. And also keeping a check on all the old foods that are stored and some how forgotten. When we store limited leftovers in the fridge, it is easier to maintain it's hygiene. Food should be used within 48 hours, even after refrigerating. If older than that, it should be tossed out.

hmtday Life Is Beautiful
Had a cup of coffee at an unusual time. Drinking coffee at 4 pm, I have never done. But, after the drink, I feel great. I feel happy and rejuvenated for some reason. I would like to have a cup of coffee everyday or at least when I feel tired at around 4 to feel the same energy as today.

hmtday Life Is Beautiful
Thinking about what to make for food, instead of thinking how to arrange a meal, is when life is blessed. Planning about where to go for a trip instead of how will I afford to go there, is when life is lavish. Thinking about the activities to do over the weekend instead of the overtime money that I can earn, is when you in the best position in life. Life is beautiful when we know what we have and also know about the pains if we didn't have them. And having all these options yet complaining about life is being ungrateful.

hmtday Open Thoughts
We often get affected with what people think of us. We care about the perception or other's opinions about us. Even if that opinion or the perception of people is completely false, we are disheartened, if it is a negative one in nature.

I am not sure, if it is the right reaction to the perceptions. It feels right if we think the opposite way, that is, when people think great of us. It gives us motivation, the same way, when they think negative about us, it feels sad. But, the perception can't be reality in all cases. When you think you are not at all like people think of you, you must not get worried. The truth will surface one day or the other. You just have to keep doing what you do. No one changes their opinion about you by trying to convince them by buttering them. It is formed based on what they think, and it will if they want it. Not because you want it.

When something is not in your control, why waste time on it? Why care about what is the perception of others about you? If the reality is solid, the perceptions can't shake it.

hmtday Mindfulness Now
It's been a busy run for me the last couple of weeks. I have not been able to practice mindfulness these days properly. I want to restart it from today. I am sitting next to my son spending time on Cafe Enoma while he is busy doing his homework. Outside, the evening prayer at the mosque is lingering. While I am focused on the sharing here what I can notice, the soft sound of pooja bell is ringing constantly somewhere in the neighborhood. Crows are crowing here and there. The fan above just keeps blowing the air on us relentlessly. I am trying to take deep breaths as I notice my breath being a bit fast. Will type later as I wish to enjoy the moment in mindfulness without thinking anything, but be free, to let free thoughts flow.

hmtday Monsoon Season
The monsoon has been a bit different this year in Mumbai. Every year we have non stop rains for days and there is no relief from the rains for a bit also. But, this year there were non stop rains for a week or two but lately it has been quite different. It rains almost everyday once or twice and rest of the time everything is dry and normal. I like it this way, people are not facing any major issues due to non stop heavy rains, but, at the same time I am concerned, if we have had enough rains to reserve the water for the entire year.

hmtday Useful Tips
Whenever you are traveling abroad, there will be many people who want to send something or the other through you to their friends or relatives living in that country. Be very cautious while you agree to carry a package of someone's. Avoid taking eatables or things that you are not sure of. Anything that may be prohibited in the country you are visiting and you are found carrying, you will be penalized for. Very often people try to hand things that are not allowed to be transported to another country including Narcotic substances, they try to do it through someone else so that they don't get caught or arrested of it. But, your life will be messed forever, if you fall prey to these practices.

hmtday Days Today
I am sorry, that, in days today I am writing about yesterday. But, yesterday being a busy day for me, I couldn't enter anything here.

Yesterday, being the auspicious day 'Rakshabandhan', I visited my family. We had a lot of fun. It was great, spending quality time with each other. Most years my brother would visit me on Rakhi but, this year I wanted to go and visit my family for the celebrations. I don't feel bad that the time just flew by yesterday because it is just the beginning of the festival season. There are a lot more lined up in the months to come. For us, we have double fun and celebrate almost all the festivals, be it Diwali or Christmas or Eid. As we are a family of mixed religions and that brings more happiness and diversity in our lives. Thank you God for all the blessings and watching over us!

hmtday Random Musings
While everyone is busy planning the special occasions, my son was busy last few days, collecting his rewards from the tooth fairy.

He lost two of his baby teeth this week. As soon as he noticed his tooth came out, he rushed to the kitchen sink to wash it. I thought he got scared of his tooth falling out. But, to my surprise, he was excited. He was excited about the money he would receive in return from the Tooth Fairy. He washed it quickly, wrapped it in a paper towel and placed it underneath his pillow.

After that, every few minutes he would go to check if his tooth was converted into gold coin.

He is not aware of the secret, that I quietly replace his tooth with Rs.5 or Rs.10 coins that look golden. As usual, when he was distracted, I did my job. It is fun to play with him this way. He forgets all about the little pain that he gets when loses his tooth. But, I did clear it out with him that the coins are not made of gold. They are normal Rs. 5/Rs.10 coins.

hmtday Random Musings
Tomorrow is Friendship's Day and on Monday Rakshabandhan. Two occasions that strengthen bonding are falling together. The next two days are going to be a lot of fun for the youngsters, I am sure. Yesterday, when I went out to the market I could see girls and boys looking for things keenly that they could possibly gift. Girls were buying things for their brothers and boys buying for their sisters. It feels good when these festivals are around.

hmtday Life Lessons
Never compare yourself with anyone. I have learnt that one must never ever compare himself/herself with anyone. Parents must not compare their children with other's children. Each one of us is unique in our own way and by comparing we look at the only good sides of others and bad sides of us. This makes us feel bad and dissatisfied. Comparison also crops up jealousy among people. That is why one must know his/her qualities and life purpose and should not try to borrow others life purposes by comparing.

Very often I get this thought, and it's been consistent for many years now. I have not had the courage to implement it but I hope I will do it soon. Whenever I see filth around in the society compound or on the street, I feel like start cleaning it right away.

I can see the beauty of the place beneath the dirt and the filth. I get this urge of uncovering it and making it free of the contamination. But, I guess I have lacked the courage to do it. It was way easier when I was in the school/college. We would clean our class rooms, school compound and sometimes even the surrounding neighborhood area.

hmtday Mindfulness Now
Being mindful, is all that can I think of right now. Just being in the now, while I jot down the things that I am sitting and observing. Watching the world go by. Sometimes, I hate to be part of everything that is happening around me. I just like being with me. Not being bothered about anyone or anything makes me relaxed.

I read a quote by Martin Scorsese, "There's no such thing as simple. Simple is hard."

I often realized it myself, that being simple is the hardest thing in today's world. It isn't easy to be simple.

We have made everything so complicated, that just going back to simplicity seems the toughest thing. The man made world is become more powerful than the God's created world. Right from the time a newborn is born in the world we have all the rules and social traps that we wrap around the newborn with. God has not given any instructions to do so, we do it out of our own compulsions.

Even if someone tries to break away from the complexities of the man made world, he will be treated as an outcast. He is termed abnormal, mad, mentally disturbed, etc.

How did this happen? Why have we become the way we are? Why so complicated?

These days, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out longevity. Break some code or thinking about what is going wrong with today's lifestyle that the life span of a person has become so low. There's a definite connection with the speed of life today. Everyone seems to be in hurry to reach somewhere. I don't know where but there is a race to somewhere.

Our grandparents easily lived at least more than 70 years but the generation after that is finding it difficult to even reach 60 years. My generation of people have no certainty about the number of years we may pull off. What I am wondering the most is, about today's children. What is in the store for them? How are they supposed to plan their life? We make plans for our life according the number of years we assume we may live. I know there are uncertainties, yet there is a standard or an average age we assume.

In a way it is good for the people to experience changes every now and then, no monotony at all. It is always good to have something to do, than be idle.

Weather is pleasant in Mumbai. Heavy showers once in a while. Very cool and nice outside and inside. Sun is playing hide and seek among the clouds.

But, it is sad that our neighboring state Gujarat is facing floods for the last one week. Too many people are affected and many have lost their lives due to the nature's whip.

I decided to write about my experience of the floods of Mumbai, 26th July, 2005. Once I started writing, I got carried away I guess. After finishing the whole note, I realizes it is too long. Hahaha... I hope it is interesting to read for everyone at least, in spite of it's length.

hmtday Days Today
Today is the day which caused a lot of disaster in Mumbai in the year 2005. It was Tuesday, a working day for all and everyone left for work, college, school as usual. In the morning we had clearer sky and the Sun peeping through the shallow clouds. I left home at around 11 am for my college, seeing the Sun shine, I left without my umbrella. My Mom prompted me, when she saw I was outside the house without umbrella and I casually told her, 'it seems, it won't rain today'. We were having just another day at the college till 2pm, it was our recess time.

The college administration informed the students that there would not be anymore classes for the day and we had to go home half day due to the heavy rains. We were over joyed! That time cell phones were not that common. Very few students had cell phones and we had no access to the news, so, we were unaware of the weather situation. All the students were relaxed, thinking it was just normal Mumbai heavy rains. No one was in a hurry to leave the campus.

We finally left at about 3pm. Once we went out on the road to catch the bus, we kept waiting and there were no empty buses coming. All the buses were busting out with people. Not a single person could enter in those buses. My friend and I decided to walk up to the Santacruz station from our college, it is a 20 minutes walk. Most students and the college professors reached the station walking in the water filled on the roads. The water level was below our knees and we were enjoying walking in the water.

Since, I was not carrying an umbrella, I was sharing my best friend's umbrella. But after the station she would split as she lived closer to the station and I had to go a little further. So, she escorted me to my bus and left. I was waiting for the bus to leave and suddenly everyone said this bus was not leaving, another bus was leaving before that one. It was pouring so heavily, no one wanted to waste a minute outside. Everyone wanted to reach home as soon as possible. So, we all got off that bus and went into the bus which was supposed to leave first. The other bus that we abandoned that also left with our bus. So, it didn't make any sense to change the bus for us.

In Mumbai we have these double decker buses, we were in one of them. After reaching the first bus stop the conductor of our bus realized that the second conductor of the bus was not on the bus. The chaos and mayhem was so bad that some how the other conductor was left at the starting point. The bus driver and the conductor informed us that they cannot continue until the second conductor boards on the bus and they would wait for him before proceeding. They had contacted him already and he was supposed to join us in a few minutes time. In double decker buses there are two conductors required, one for each level. So, the passengers had no option but to wait.

No one was getting any autos, any buses, as everything was packed already. Some male passengers decided to go and bring the second conductor from the depot. The time was flying by and there was no sign of him. So, they went walking to see till where he had reached, as the depot was very close to the bus. After 45 minutes of long wait in the raging rain the second conductor arrived.

A few women were constantly complaining, they kept requesting the bus staff to hurry up as they had to pick their children up from the school and they were already very late. Finally, after all the confusion our bus moved again. In the meanwhile, I and even other passengers noticed the bus that we got off earlier already passed us long ago. Our bus reached the main signal of Santacruz flyover and we were waiting to cross the signal. The wait become a little over the usual time of the signal. People were getting anxious, why is it taking so long for the signal to free up? Everyone kept waiting and waiting, but the bus wasn't moving an inch from it's spot. At this point everyone was tired of even complaining and agitating. Traffic outside was unimaginable. Vehicles were standing crossing lanes. No one had any scope of going in any direction.

It became like a bus picnic where people had just given up on all their demands and were sitting hopelessly, not knowing when they would reach home. I had a good company, next to me was another college student sitting. She was from the girls college that was next to my college. So, we were chit chatting for a while. After waiting there for about more than an hour and no sign of relief, we both decided to go walking from there to our homes.

I didn't even have an umbrella and it was like a cloudburst outside. We both talked about it and left our seat. We knew once we left our seats we may not even get the seats back. So, if we don't go walking we may have to stand for a long time in the bus.

When we reached the exit door of the bus there was a girl in Burkha standing there. She was also a college student, same as our age. And she was really really worried about how her family would react if she reached home so late after the college. She wanted to reach home very badly. Even she did not have an umbrella like me. We were talking about going down and walking.

The men standing next to us heard and they warned us not to do that. They said all over water is filled, the water is till the waist level, it won't be possible for us to walk in that water. We looked at those men, we thought inside, these people always exaggerate situations. The water must be till the knees and these guys are hyping it up by saying waist level. Our bus was standing where the ground was higher. So, we told those men, we could manage on our own.

We, got off the bus in the knee length water. As we proceeded, the water level started rising. We were more scared of falling into a manhole than the rains. So, I told the girls if we walk in the middle of the road on the divider, we could avoid the manholes mostly. We weren't sure though. I could see people struggling with their bikes. The bikers were affected the most. They were carrying their vehicle in that situation, the vehicle was not carrying them. Walking was extremely difficult in the waist high water. Too much strength to pull ourselves ahead in the water. After walking for 15 minutes, one of the girls spotted her mother running around looking for her. Her family members had left home and come out to get her home. So, she left from there with them. The girl in the Burkha and I had to walk more. My house was closer though but she stayed far off.

I was thinking, I could ask my mother to let her stay at our place till the rains got over. I told her too, that come home with me and you can stay. But, she was too scared of her family's reaction with her being so late. She wasn't that concerned about the water and the rains. Then I told her, come home and take an umbrella, call your family from my home phone and then go. Or if they could also come to take you from here. As, we reached the temple near my house the water vanished. The waist level water came down to the ankles. Near my house we have a big Hanumaan temple, a church (St. Anthony's Vakola) bang opposite the temple and on the other side, same road, a mosque (Vakola Masjid). We were shocked that there was no water logging there. We both went to my house. My Mom had a sigh of relief seeing me home safely. She noticed I had a company. My Mom also insisted her to stay back and not to go home as she lived in Kurla which was the most affected area in that day's rains. But, she said she would try and go right away. We dialed her home phone but all the connectivity was broken. She couldn't talk to her family. We gave her an umbrella and I escorted her to the main road. She left from there on her own. I never ever met her again till date. But, I hoped at that time and assured myself that she would reach her home well and she will be fine.

My dad could not come back home, that night he had to stay at his work place. He had called my mother several times to check if all three of the children, that is, us were safe home. Later even he could not call so we assumed that he would be at his company office. My uncle worked far off, he would travel 2 hours daily each way for his work so we knew he wouldn't make it back home that day. He also had managed to called my dad once and had informed him that he was safe at his work place with other colleagues. We slept in the night somehow, in the dark having no electricity. No one had any appetite for food or anything. That was a day! We were some of the luckiest people in the city to have a roof and dry home. All were not so lucky.

After a day or two when the news papers came and the stills of the floods were printed, I saw my double decker bus in those pictures standing where we left it. Even today when I see the pictures of that day I can see that bus standing there and we were so lucky to leave it in time.

The one thing that is undoubtedly common between animals and humans is the survival. Both want to learn the art of survival. As soon as the baby is born of a human or of an animal the quest of survival begins. The parents of the babies try all the tricks of survival and try to teach the young ones for many years the one thing, survival.

The training of survival begins as soon as you are born. Survival is the most desired purpose of life. People may not even know that their most important purpose on earth is survival. Our life revolves around it. The things we do, the way we do, the profession we choose, all that we plan, the lifestyle we live or choose to live all are serving one sole purpose of survival.

We must be thankful to God for the comfortable life that we have, the shelter to protect us against the weather, have food in our plate that too having choice of food and the loved ones around to comfort us. Those who are unfortunate and do not have these things they know what it means to have the basic necessities. And there are those who can have it all but they are bound by their duties and sacrifice it all to serve others like our Soldiers. They not only sacrifice the comfort and their loved ones but they constantly live under the threat of losing their lives. We must also pray to God that our Soldiers are safe.

Everything was quite unusual yesterday, when I went out. Too much security everywhere especially at Andheri railway station. Andheri station is one of the busiest and the most crowded railway stations of Mumbai suburbs. I think it was because of the terror attack that took place on 11th July on the Amarnath pilgrims. 11th July is a black day for Mumbai as well because of the major terror attack that had taken place on the same day back in 2006. The attack on the Mumbai local trains that killed over 200 people in less than 11 minutes. It is faded memory now, but it was good too see the security personnel trying to do their jobs well by patrolling carefully.

hmtday Random Musings
I hate being tagged! People put tags around people. We ourselves tag our self. He is too shy, she is very nice, he is rude, quiet, bad, good, smart, retarded, funny, weird, etc, etc. And what happens once these tags are put on you and people start behaving with you as per that, because they create a figure of you around those tags. Ultimately it catches on to you. You start guarding the good tags and start fearing the bad tags. For example, when people perceive you as a nice person, you start becoming nicer and nicer, there is no harm in being nice but at times you get lost in being nice. On the other hand when you tag yourself as a shy person, you automatically become shy. You fear speaking up because you have got a mental block that tells you, I am shy. Tags limit our personality. We must avoid them and live as we like living not as per the tags given.

It was once called the heaven on Earth, Kashmere by some and now it is called Kashmir. A place which was famous for it's special woolens, shawls, food, clothing and lifestyle. The beauty and nature of the place was so mesmerizing that people termed it Heaven on Earth. The house boats, the warm hospitality, innocent people and abundance of mother nature with unlimited nuts and fruits. All this used to make Kashmir a thriving tourist location. The gift of God that this place has is very rare to be seen. Even today the best woolens are the Cashmeres, the name given by the western folk, is the most desirable and expensive winter wear. Pashmina shawls, who would not want to flaunt around the neck? Being the home for such beautiful things, today Kashmir is soaked in blood! The future is not good if things continue to be the way they are and have been there. The souls of the dead will haunt Kashmir. The bloodshed whether of the innocent people, the security forces or the terrorist and the rebels is scaring the beauty of Kashmir which may become so blemished that would never revert back to it's former form.

Once called the Heaven now in literal means has turned into heaven or hell whatever you may call it for the dead souls. The people of Kashmir must wake up for the sake of the future and save it. There is no Kashmeriat that is been seen or left in Kashmir. The all it has become is a graveyard of the piles of dead bodies that are staking up daily in big numbers.

I pray for Kashmeriat to come back to life again. The innocent people of Kashmir to see the friend and enemy clearly and decide who they have to fight with and finish off. I hope they get rid of the evils that are sitting on the other side of the border and contaminating their minds. Those who are fueling these thoughts and actions are not burning in it, the ones who are burning are the people this side 'the Kashmiris'.

The souls of the victims (Amarnath Yatris) who died last night in the gruesome terror attack should rest in peace. It is a ghastly act by cowards who hide and attack like this and that too at unarmed children, men and women. The terrorist should show some shame and should come out in the open and fight with those who have the guns like them, that will prove them or validate what they stand for not by being cowards, attacking innocent people who cannot even defend themselves.

There is no pride and nothing fake among each other. Even if one of them is acting too arrogant you bring them down like school days.

hmtday Public Speaking Tips
While speaking it is very important to know the right pitch and the intonation. The right words to stress upon and the exact time for the pauses. To get the sense of what one is speaking, comes from all these things. Otherwise you may have written the best speech material of all times but if it is not delivered effectively there will be no impact of it at all. It will be flat speaking with no emotions. The politicians certainly know this very well, that's how they get the ears of the people listening to them so attentively.

Doing something good and doing good when no one is watching is a step towards a better society. When everyone tries to do their bit for the society without comparing himself/herself with those who do not do anything then our world becomes a better place automatically.

At present what is happening is, people do not like doing something good for others, as they have an excuse no one else is doing so why shall I bother. Something small and doable also no one likes to do when it can have a great impact on the society we live in. If the world around us becomes better, friendly and generous. We are the ones who enjoy the most. Our good work ultimately pays off and benefits us in return but we live in a society where people have no vision.

One of the etiquettes which people are openly flaunting is, clicking picture of anyone, anywhere with their personal phones. Mostly men, who pretend to do something on their phone and click pictures of women without taking permission. I believe one should never take someone's photo without their consent.

hmtday Smartphone Etiquette
As Vinay was mentioning earlier how people are using phones while crossing the road. Similar mistakes are made by the drivers of the vehicles and the bike riders. They are often busy on the cell phones while driving which not only risks their lives but also of the pedestrians and others riding along. One should use the phone cautiously which does not hurt anyone. Phones are a mode to keep in touch with people, that's it. Why give it so much undue importance in life.

hmtday Ways To Save Money
Buying things as per the current need or requirement is always wise. If you need a car for your family that is of 2-4 members buying a small car makes more sense than going for an SUV. Even though you may have plans of traveling with more people in the future, you must look at the current need and buy your vehicle. Buying a small car is easy to maintain, it consumes less fuel, it is easy to find parking space and even while driving less hassle. So, you are most likely to enjoy your small car with your small family compared to a giant car which requires a lot of care and maintenance.

The same goes with clothes or other household items. As we need them we should buy them. There no need to hoard things at home when they are not needed. Things only become old sitting at home and eat up the space. Nothing increases it's value becoming old except precious metals, land and wine.

hmtday Ways To Save Money

But, these days I don't see any child being upset by the weather, because they are busy playing PC games and watching television. Do not know whether this is more fun or the days I enjoyed. During the rains when it is difficult to keep up with the outdoor walks and other exercise regimens, the best way to workout is to 'spot walk' in one corner of the house. hmtday Longevity Secrets
Going about the life at our own pace is one of the longevity secrets that I think is. Not running around or behind the crowds and doing what everyone else is doing, going against our speed of doing things is not good for our life. Setting our own pace without worrying about reaching the destination as per the timer set by others. In the olden or rather Golden days people would decide the time for doing things as per their own schedule. And they would live much longer than our this generation.

hmtday Public Speaking Tips
The best public speaking that I follow is to get settled at the stage or the place you are supposed to speak at before giving your speech. Taking a while before starting your speech gives you time to relax and speak well. You can have a sip of water, take a good look at your audiences, the stage area, try to get everyone's attention before you start speaking and maintain the eye contact with all. Once you start a stable and set speech there are very less probabilities that your are going to mess it up ahead.

Once I was reading a book where this character was there of a Nun. This young Nun was trying to be an ideal Nun and had just completed her training. Very often she would feel bad and get upset by the treatment she would receive from other people. Things were not going well for her at all, so she decided to go for counseling. She approached the priest of the church for the same. When the priest asked her why do you think people ill treat you? She said, she did not know the reason for that, when she tries to be nice to everyone and never be rude with anyone ever. The priest understood her problem instantly. The priest then asked her why do you have to be nice with everyone and always? She replied because I am a Nun. After getting that response from the Nun, the priest told her you are a Nun, not a doormat. Being nice does not mean you should not have any self respect. Being nice does not mean that you should not object when there is something wrong going on. Being nice does not mean you should not tell someone when they are wrong.

I heard some loud howling this afternoon far off some where in the background. I could not understand or hear anything clearly. I tried hard to listen to what was that noise was about. After paying closer attention I realized it was some sort of sloganeering, Yes, sloganeering! I said to myself who is protesting in this peaceful high profile area. People here are mostly elderly and extremely quite, especially during the silent hours of the afternoon. But, today is an unusual afternoon. I sat again and started working on my laptop when I heard the sloganeering very clearly and I again started wondering what are they saying. I got up swiftly and rushed to the window and saw many many and many men holding placards in their hands and walking in a rally. The minute I got the glimpse of one of the placards all my guessing was over. The placard showed 'No ISISI'. I realized in a jiffy that all our Muslim neighbors were out there on the streets of our area today to show and tell everyone they hate ISIS and they are against ISIS. My eyes welled up for a moment for the fact that they were marching in the middle of the afternoon, shouting their slogans, men followed by women in their Burkhas with placards in their hands on a somewhat sunny day. And it was emotional for me because I know they all observing Ramadan. They all are fasting that too without water. This can only happen in India. This is my Incredible India!

hmtday Life Lessons
I notice people or rather family members trying to change another member of the family when they feel that person is wrong or not good from their point of view. But, what I have learnt is, no matter how much you try to change another adult, you will fail and will be stressed out in the process. Try to learn to accept that person as he/she is or stay away if you can't accept. Because the nature of a person never changes, no matter what. What changes in a person is the habits of doing things. The way a person thinks or perceives does not really change by someone trying to change is externally.

And of course the movie was worth watching.

With GST being implemented in almost all the states now I hope our economy will gain a stable momentum. It is a step towards Incredible economy of India where taxes will be paid by all the eligible (for service and goods) tax payers in a systematic way, where it does not burden particular people but is divided equally. Though GST is still a mystery for most of the common people or those who don't know how it works. Two days ago I was having a healthy discussion with one of my old friends about the religion and all sorts of acts that people do in the name of religion. My friend has been quite upset with all the Cow vigilantism and food habits being hindered with. So, while talking she was telling me how people go to any extend because of their religion, they even turn violent and harm/kill people of other religions that's how strong the concept of religion is. I agree with most of it. People form their own set of rules and customs in their religion but all are not bad. I sensed that she somewhere was hinting at a single religion of this country and was not happy with almost everything that they do. I happen to mention that yes, today we have an entire country(IS) that is killing people using their faith as their weapon. But, somewhere she wanted me to take a stand on the incidents happening in the country related to the whole fiasco of beef ban. She would mention different things to tell how bad things are in this particular set, she also used the example of Aghoras of Varanasi. How they live and how they perform their rituals. But, when it comes to those people who go through self torturing in the name of religion I do not find anything wrong in that. They are trying to push their physical limits to different levels and sufferings but that does not harm anyone else but them. What harms someone is when you go out there with Guns, grenades, bombs and kill hundreds and thousands due to the vengeance using your religion to get people to perform such evil things. I find those Aghoras insane but would I criticize them for testing their physical capacity to bear pain? No.

Most of her life she lived in the countryside and one thing that I would notice about her was, that she barely wore footwear.

It is pouring down right now as I type. I am enjoying my time on Cafe Enoma and the enjoyment is doubled because of the rain. The environment makes a huge difference in anyone's performance at work or in life. When you are comfortable, you deliver more.

hmtday Sleep Tips
To get proper sleep in time one should avoid watching TV or looking at the screen before going to sleep. You must shut down your PC, TV or any other screens that you watch half an hour before going to bed.

hmtday Weight Loss Tips
If you don't like putting on extra weight then must avoid sitting for long in a stretch. When we keep taking small break in between our work and move about a little bit, we feel fresh as well as we don't get into the habit of sitting in one place all the time like couch potatoes. This way we keep the extra pounds at bay.

hmtday Longevity Secrets
In simple words, 'simplicity' is the biggest secret to longevity.

hmtday Body Language
When someone is constantly shaking his/her leg while having a conversation that means the person is not fully attentive to what is being said and the person is thinking about something else altogether.

hmtday Body Language
When the shoulders are kept broad and held up and the back is straight we automatically appear confident. So, one can use this posture when you want to portrait you are confident and bold.

hmtday Body Language
While having a face to face conversation, body language is one of the major aspects. We can easily know how well the conversation is going by the body language of the opposite person. Knowing basic body language and observing the same helps a lot to know when a person you are talking to is genuine or not.

hmtday Hygiene Tips
Whenever we go out to the market or to the malls and we are out for a long time we should avoid touching our face. Our hands get contaminated by pressing the buttons in the lift, door knobs, railings and so many things without even realizing and when we keep touching our face with the same hands the germs go all over our face and sometimes we get eye infections due to that.

hmtday Mindfulness Now
It is the best evening that am living and I realized it because of being mindful. The instrumental music playing on the speaker in the other room, the guitar tunes to be precise are making me move while I am mindful and listening to it keenly. The rain drops can be heard falling on the parapet and on the leaves of the mango tree outside the window. The honks of the cars far off in the background and the auto rickshaws. My son chatting with his father. I can feel my breath as type the entire session right now after focusing on all the things for a while. Next time I want to try typing while I am mindful and test myself if I can do all at once.

hmtday Open Thoughts
Today it is raining like Mumbai Monsoon for the first time this season. It feels great right now, the weather being so pleasant and cool. Going to the Mindfulness Now for a relaxing and mindful session. I am very happy to have the section added here, everyone can just sit and practice mindfulness as per their convenience.

hmtday Useful Tips
Must remember to keep copying whatever we type on the computer every 2-3 minutes and once done typing must copy it again before pressing the submit button. This is an important practice because many times the internet connection resets and by the time we are done typing our message and when we have forgotten to copy the typed material gets lost if the internet connection had gone in the middle and we lose all that content that we typed taking so much time.

The easiest way to keep copying is to press ctrl A and ctrl C that's it.

hmtday Open Thoughts
Dear Gomathi, it seems you did not 'log in' properly. That is why there is an error in your OT messages and they aren't coming in the same color as other messages.

hmtday Incredible India
The culture, the customs, the rituals, the traditions, the Vedas, the philosophy and so many more things that contribute to our nation to be truly incredible.

hmtday Incredible India
India is incredible because the people of this country are incredible. It is not less than a wonder for 1.3 billion people to live in 32,87,240 sq.km day and night together.

hmtday Open Thoughts
Self acceptance does not mean that one should not focus on improving himself. But improving with accepting your own uniqueness will carve you in being the true you.

hmtday Open Thoughts
There is nothing better than self acceptance. When a person is comfortable with his or her identity, proud of being himself/herself, that is the time the person knows himself better and truly confident in life. When we try to be someone else, always striving to copy someone else's style shows we are not really confident about our individuality. There are people who even fool themselves trying to be someone else. And when someone constantly does this, it is inferiority complex that the person is suffering from. Where the person is ashamed of being himself or to accept his own unique personality.

hmtday Open Thoughts
I feel a fresh energy within me with the new month. Nothing has changed around but the feeling is just great. It is true that there are different kinds of energies around us and when we seek for positiveness we do feel the same. The weather definitely has a role to play.

hmtday Hobby Lobby
During my collage days I would have more time to spend at home. I used to spend most afternoons with my mother learning new ways of embroidery and tailoring. This talent was passed to my mother by her mother that is grandma and then I wanted to have it as well but I guess our lives are so different, that these things don't matter anymore.

hmtday Hobby Lobby
I like stitching, it was introduced to me by my mother. I have not been in touch for many years now, because of so many things that keep me occupied. But, I want to get back to stitching again. It's a great hobby and an art. It is something that if you are out of touch you lose it. I don't want to lose the touch or I may have already lost. I will know it only when I try to make something. I must buy a sewing machine at home to start practicing it again.

hmtday Random Musings
There is funny thing which is attached to this house of ours at Versova for me. We have this neighbor whose kitchen window is opposite our kitchen window and every summer they make pickles and keep the pickle jar out in the window for a few days during the summer. The pickles look so tempting that for years now I have been thinking whether I should just go and ask the kind lady to give me some to eat. This year it refreshed my memories of my pregnancy year when I was staying here and would get tempted looking at the pickle in that window.

hmtday Nature Thoughts
It's a beautiful evening today, the sky is orange and pink, extremely bright right now. I guess it will rain heavily in a few hours time. The weather is just amazing for me.

hmtday Open Thoughts
Second half of the year has begun, there are changes done on Cafe Enoma on the first day of the new month. It is very refreshing and should be more inviting for everyone to spend quality time here. I didn't even realize that the vacation for children will be over soon in Mumbai and in some parts of the country it is already over. Time for everyone to get back to business once again.

hmtday Truly Social
Meeting friends also has become so expensive that people have no option but to keep avoiding meeting pals at a restaurant. One outing for an evening costs about two thousands minimum. Travel, food and if you wish to take a small gift then it can cost a little more. So, this way how many times are you going to see your friends each month? Life is more complicated than it seems.

hmtday Happy Things
Sessions of mindfulness makes me content and happy.

The monsoon repair of the building has been non stop going on and so does the banging. Too much noise at times to take. I hope they are almost finished with their repairs for this monsoon. It's been quite hot and stuffy these days. My eyes keep looking for the dark clouds in the sky and when will it just start to shower.

hmtday Health Club
Taking care of our bones is very important today. Due to the lifestyle today almost every Indian is suffering from deficit of vitamin D3, which comes from direct sun exposure. Adults and children following the routine cycle day in and day out miss out on the morning sun bathing and those who are mostly at home find it very difficult to go out in the early hours of the day due to the tight schedule like the house wives. What should be done to get enough of sun? Well we all know we have to start seeing it more often every day instead of avoiding it.

hmtday Stress Busters
Having a fish aquarium at home is an all time stress buster. Whenever we are around fish we tend to stare at the mute specie for some reason. We think one has to shout out loud to draw someone's attention but to the contrary this attraction what we have towards fishes cannot be explained. Fish goes about moving in it's habitat silently and we just enjoy the way it moves.

hmtday Relaxing Thoughts
In this unbearable heat if something that relaxes me is the thought of the rains. The mere sound of the thunder makes me happy these days.

hmtday Relaxing Thoughts
Thinking of Yoga itself relaxes me. I love doing Yoga with my son.

hmtday Beverage Chat
Summer is the only time when we buy packaged juices at home. Packaged juices are mostly sucrose based with merely 20-30% of the fruit pulp. So, it is not really like drinking pure juice made at home. But, we can sweat it out during the summer, so no guilt in having it.

hmtday Music Chat
I like listening to the instrumental music specially the Indian classical music. We have had very talented and distinct musicians from India in the past but I can't think of anyone from the new generation in the field. I hope we will have a few renowned musicians again from the current generation as well.

hmtday Nature Thoughts
Sitting down and imagining the waterfalls of Malshej Ghat. Malshej ghat is just a few hours drive from Mumbai, the MTDC resort is right on top of the mountain. Along the way you can enjoy the waterfalls during the mid monsoon. The old snaps are reminding me of the great trips we had in the past.

hmtday Success Tips
What is your Locus of control? There are those who do things and know their success and failure depends on the efforts they put in. If they succeed they take all the glory and if they fail they accept the failure knowing they may have gone wrong somewhere. And there are those who depend too much on the external factors for their success or failure. They always wish if things were different I could have done better. If the systems were better I could have been successful. They think this way, because they have an external Locus of control. They don't know that they can control their own life. Their internal Locus of control is extremely weak.

When we write something that we believe in we reaffirm our views on that topic. We are not writing for others to follow those values but to tell ourselves that, I think this what is right. This practice helps us remain focused in our life and keeps us on track to follow the things that we think is right.

I was watching the news when I saw there have been major clashes between two communities in the north side of the country and the reason of such large scale violence is to place God's statue in the desired spot. Two communities have been fighting so mush so that curfew has been imposed in that area. With this mindset we expect India to become world power!

hmtday Open Thoughts
When I see orthodox practices existing even today, I feel it must be eliminated. Some issues are so deep rooted that it may take a long time to be thrown out of the society. But what can you do when it is the root itself and not just deep rooted? Like the religious/cast discrimination and the violence related to such social issues.

hmtday Family Time
I love the time when I sit with my son and make him do his homework. It is a task but it is also one of the most important family time a parent should have with children.

hmtday Stress Busters
I am not sure if I have already mentioned this earlier but I just wanted to share that for me the best stress buster is to sit around midnight when all my chores are done and I am completely free and watch the Best TV series ever made the 'Seinfeld'. It is just amazing how they made the show so long ago that covers almost all social phenomena with great ease and absolutely humorous and the best part of it is, it is still relevant after decades.

hmtday Useful Tips
People often have clogged drainage trouble in their houses and its a nightmare getting the pipes unclogged, sometimes expensive too as the plumbers love to rob you for the smallest jobs. The simplest solution to this problem is to use Drainex/Drainfix/Drainit any of the small pouches available in the market to unclog the pipes. You must use it at least one a month or twice even if your drainage is not clogged you should pour those packets monthly to keep the pipes unclogged at all times.

hmtday Weather Center
I could not be any more hopeful for the rains as much as I am right now. It's the limit of my patience with this awful heat.

hmtday Parenting Chat
It is very difficult to judge your own performance as a parent until the child grows up and brings honor to his/her parents. The results for every parent's hard work are seen when the children become adults and others talk about their upbringing, positive or negative.

Revamping in the education system is become more of an emergency now. Government has to start working on the modification of educational institutes. Changes in the education impartment is the rarest site in this country. The all I expect is more emphasis on nurturing the young minds with special talents and having more scope of research in the academics. Not just the rat race and the higher grades.

Yesterday for the first time I watched the big movie 'Dangal'. I liked the movie not because it is an Amir Khan movie but the thing that I liked was tireless zeal of doing the constant work in the same direction. You become extraordinary automatically when you are completely dedicated to your dreams and working towards achieving the same every single day that you wake up.

hmtday Stress Busters
By bending a few times a day the blood flows directly into our head area which helps our brain get enough oxygen. That is the reason why the older generation taught us to touch feet of the elders because it is a very helpful exercise for our brain.

hmtday Open Thoughts
I love watching TV and love entertainment and cinema. But, do not follow any actor or actresses in my life. Even when I see them in real life I do not like going up to them. I like them purely on the Television beyond that I don't care what they are and what they do. I am not a fan of any celeb for sure. I like the work of certain actors or love certain movies but that does not make me go crazy over those artists.

hmtday Open Thoughts
Some of these actors who come on the TV get so detached from the world reality that they some how start thinking that wherever they will go people will recognize them and flock around. A couple of days ago I went to the near by supermarket with my son Max to buy somethings. There was this old man who came from no where and started to talk to us. He asked my son 'what is your name?' Max was standing and not responding as usual. I intervened and told him that Max doesn't talk to people he doesn't know. Then comes the drama, the old man said if I tell him my name will he talk? I said no. Then this guy says I am challenged now will make him speak to me. I was shocked at what was going on at the same time blank in my mind about what to do to get rid of this man. He started telling Max, 'don't you remember me from this ad and that ad, this character and that character. I did recognize him by then but was too suspicious about his behavior and just wanted to get away from him. The all I could think was is he a scamster or a molester? Finally a few minutes later he realized that we were not really concerned about who so ever he may be. He went away. What a relief, but I surely learned a lesson not even to respond these people at all even though they are old. The only reason I did not tell him to go off or was rude to him because he looked old to me. After coming back home I did see him on TV ad that comes these days of Intex AC but still wouldn't want to see him ever again.

There are roughly five kinds of people that we come across in our lives. The first category is 'moderate people' these are the normal, non harming people who love to do their work and mind their own business at most times, they show each emotion at the right time in the right amount. Second, 'the mad people' these are those who are always angry and keep troubling someone or the other for some reason or the other, at times they don't need any reason at all to harass someone. Third category is, 'the mute ones' these are those who do not talk much, it is difficult to tell what they are thinking, whether they are happy/sad, whether they are contemplating something against you, etc. They simply won't open their mouth to tell what's going on, you keep imagining what's up with them. Fourth ones are 'the martyrs' these are the people who think everything bad only happens in their life. They think they are so special that God gave pains and hardships only to them, everyone else's lives are bed of roses as per them. And the last category is 'machine gun', this is the scariest one where the person just starts firing at you for the smallest mistake you may have done. They just need a reason to explode and show their power.

Appreciating everything that I have in life. Over the years I have learned that more than the desires to get better and better in life, I should appreciate what I already have. There are so many people on this planet or around me itself who are praying for the things that I have and if I don't value what I have then it would be a shame having these things given by God.

The pre-monsoon repairs are going on strong in the city of Mumbai. Everywhere there is some work or the other on, to brace against the monsoon troubles. I fail to understand why all this work is not done thoroughly and once and for all. Every single year we prepare for the rains in the city and still once the rains start the state of the city is bad. All sorts of problems are faced by the people, right from the potholes to heavy traffic, water logging to waterborne diseases, leakages to blocked drainage.

There are two elements which can break any family. The deepest relationships and the best of friendships. It is the ego and the jealousy. Yes, ego and jealousy causes rifts in families and friends. It's not money that breaks people's relations, it's the jealousy that dwells in people's minds when one earns more money and it is the ego that comes gusting into the person who earns more money.
